Day 17

The other story I read by Andrew Lang was "Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper". It is a little different from Cinderella. It is about a girl who was amazingly beautiful and her step-mother was very jealous, so she made he do all the dirty work around the house. She didn't just do the dirty work, she also gave her two step-sisters advice on what to wear, and everything else. One day all of them find out that there is a ball at the King and Prince's palace. The two step-sisters explain to Cinderella (Cinderwench) what exactly they want to wear for the ball. But when the day comes and the two step-sisters are ready to go, Cinderella watches them leave and when they get out of sight, Cinderella starts to cry. Her fairy godmother comes to her and has her bring a pumpkin from the garden, the godmother turns it into a fine coach, gilded all over with gold. Then she ask Cinderella to check the mouse trap. The godmother turns the six mice into 6 light colored gray horses. Then Cinderella checks another mouse trap for some more, but when she checks, all she find are two rats. The godmother picks one out of the three to turn it into coachman. Cinderella went to the ball and everyone was a amazed by her looks. The Prince couldn't stop looking at her. The second night of the ball she left her glass slipper behind, and Prince's servants came to their door asking for the ladies to try on the slipper. The step-sisters couldn't fit it, but Cinderella could. The step-sisters threw themselves at her feet begging for her forgiveness. She forgave them. Got married a few days later. She let her step-sister live with her and she hooked them up with two great lord of the Court.

My story is about two young girls named Rose-Red and Snow-White. They were named after their mother's favorite rose bushes in the front yard. They are sweet, gentle, nice, wonder girls. They help their mother and other animals. During the Winter a bear comes to the house asking for a shelter to settle in. The mother lets him in and while he lays by the fire, the girl hit and tease him. He stays calm and when they get to rough he asks them to not kill him. He comes to their house every night at the same time throughout the Winter season. But when Summer comes he leave to find the dwarf. A few days later the girls come across the dwarf, but he has his beard stuck in a log. And because he can't remove it himself, they have to cut the beard. A few days later, the girls come across him again and he was stuck in a fish rod and a fish was pulling him in. The girl had to cut his beard again so that he could be released. Then a few days later, they come across him again, but at that moment they see a bear kill him by hitting him with his paw. The girls screamed and ran away but the bear yelled after them. But they recognized the voice so they stopped and waited. A few days later Snow-White married the Prince (the bear) and Rose-Red married his brother.

There are so many difference between these two stories. "Cinderella or the Glass Slipper" is a story about a girl who is left with her step-mother and her two step-sisters, she gets treated badly but in the end she still has good luck and marries the man of her dreams. "Snow-White and Rose-Red" is about two sisters who are nice to everyone and always do good and they still are lucky in the end and they marry two Princes. "Cinderella or the Glass Slipper" is a fairytale, but "Snow-White and Rose-Red" is a Beast Folktale. There is a man who is cursed into a bear but breaks it. The similarities are that in both stories Cinderella, Rose-Red and Snow-White still get a guy, well a Prince, and live happily ever after.

The message in "Cinderella or the Glass Slipper" is that even though you don't start out with a good life, you might just get one in the end or that you should always forgive and forget. Cinderella forgave her two step-sisters for treating her badly, and for apologizing they still got there happy ending but just not the one they wanted. And the message in "Snow-White and Rose-Red" I think would be that you will always get what you deserve when you do the right thing. The message are kind of similar. In the one story the girl is treated badly but is always nice in the end but she still gets the Prince in the end. And the two girls in the second story where nice and did the right thing all their life and even though the dwarf was rude and mean to them they still helped him, but he got what he deserved in the end (death), and so did the girls (marriage).

  1. Your explanations of things I think you put a lot of work into. This will help you and make it easier for writing your paper.
